Putnam County could soon make changes to indoor smoking policies. Right now, businesses can allow smoking if they post signs, and prohibit anyone under 18 from coming in. The county’s indoor clean air policy was written in 2007, when vaping and e-cigarettes were not addressed. The Putnam County Board of Health is looking over the county’s 14-year-old policy and may propose changes. The American Lung Association gave Putnam County an ‘F’ grade in tobacco control. Kanawha, which does not allow smoking in any public place, received an ‘A’. West Virginia received failing grades in many tobacco-related categories. WCHS TV said any chances proposed by the Putnam County board of health would have to go through a public comment period, which would likely be in August.
