Heavy Turnpike Traffic is Expected This Weekend

The West Virginia Department of Transportation expects heavier-than-usual traffic on the West Virginia Turnpike this Fourth of July weekend. The Fourth of July weekend is historically one of the busiest times on the Turnpike and with more people vaccinated there will be more cars at the tollbooths. During the last two weeks of June 2021, more than 875,000 vehicles have passed through Turnpike toll booths, some of the highest traffic counts on the Turnpike in the past three years. If possible, you’re asked to avoid trips on the Turnpike during peak travel times of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Traveling earlier or later than peak times can help avoid congestion. Flaggers will be posted at toll plazas over the holiday weekend to assist with the flow of traffic.
