McDowell County Deputy Faces Domestic Battery Charge

Court records say a McDowell County deputy has been charged in a domestic incident. Martin Shelton of Avondale is charged with domestic battery, according to a criminal complaint from McDowell County Magistrate Court. West Virginia State Police were asked to take over a domestic battery investigation involving a member of the sheriff’s office. Shelton’s wife said he hit her and she was leaving the house. An officer advised her to meet with police near Roderfield, and she told officers there that Shelton was drinking and was intoxicated when the incident happened. McDowell County Sheriff James Muncy said domestic violence will not be tolerated, but Deputy Shelton is innocent until proven guilty.
