The man accused of murdering a Charleston police officer in the line of duty won’t go to trial until later this year. Joshua Phillips was indicted in April by a grand jury and faces the murder charge for the death of Charleston Patrolman Cassie Johnson last December as she was responding to a parking complaint on Garrison Avenue. During a hearing before Kanawha County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Bailey on Monday it was learned that a witness in the case from the Officer of the Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Allen Mock, will not be available to testify for at least 90 days due to medical issues. Phillips was originally set to go on trial on Aug. 16. Bailey re-set the trial for Nov. 15.
