Man Accused in KJ Taylor’s Murder Pleads Not Guilty

A man wanted for two Charleston murders who was arrested in Ohio after a violent standoff with police pleaded not guilty to an 8-count indictment against him via virtual hearing in Kanawha County Circuit Court on Monday. Dekotis Thomas of Charleston was indicted in May for murder in the April 7 shooting of Capital High School student Kelvin “KJ” Taylor, and a 2019 case where Antwan Curnell of Dunbar was shot and killed on Interstate 77 in Charleston. Thomas’ attorney also said Thomas was experiencing death threats at South Central Regional Jail and wanted to be moved to Central Regional Jail in Flatwoods, but no decision was made. Judge Joanna Tabit tentatively set Thomas’ trial for Dec. 6.
