Putnam Schools Won’t Enforce Mask Mandate

The Putnam County Board of Education voted on Monday to recommend, but not enforce, mask wearing this school year unless further directed by health officials. A special meeting was called for the Board of Education to discuss face masks and the board considered whether to leave the decision of students wearing face masks in schools to the parents and guardians and whether to allow employees to decide for themselves. Putnam County Schools started its face mask mandate for all indoor activities and on buses on Friday, Aug. 20. The mandate applies to all students and employees, regardless of their vaccination status. The mask requirement was set to be in effect for 30 days and then be reviewed by health officials at the end of the 30-day period. Classes start today in Putnam County.
