With the Vaccine, Long-term Care Facilities See Case Numbers Decrease

Long-term care facilities were once ground zero for COVID-19 outbreaks and community spread, but West Virginia’s data shows the number of active cases inside facilities is slowly trending down. Five facilities in the state have 10 or more residents with COVID-19, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. They said they might not be able to stop the spread, hospitalizations and deaths decrease with the vaccine. WCHS TV reported that the Mountain State was one of the first places in the country to complete vaccinations in nursing homes. The West Virginia Health Care Association reports show that about 85% of residents and nearly 70% of the staff at facilities opted to get vaccinated.
