West Virginia American Water will begin construction later this month on a $1.5 million infrastructure upgrade project along Washington Street East in Charleston. The company said the project will replace 1,800 feet of 12″ cast iron water main from Morris to Shrewsbury streets. The first phase of the project will begin October 18. Workers will work on the section of the water main between Morris and Brooks streets. The second phase will include work from Brooks Street to Leon Sullivan Way. The work will end with the completion of the main from Leon Sullivan Way to Shrewsbury Street. WCHS TV reported each phase of the work is expected to last two weeks, and crews will work both day and night. Drivers are urged to find alternate routes to avoid delays. The company said it is working with Charleston Area Medical Center and the Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences to minimize impacts to daily operations and coordinate traffic patterns for emergency vehicles and people attending events.
