The city of Charleston discussed redistricting at Monday’s planning committee meeting. Members have proposed three different maps to redraw districts within city limits. Because of the latest census data from the U.S. Census that had to be done, all 20 wards will be redrawn to some degree, where population and the desire to preserve communities have been taken into account. City leaders say they still want the new districts to accurately represent those communities. The city plans to have those new districts finalized by Nov. 15.
Charleston City Council currently has 20 ward representatives and six at-large members.
