Downtown Montgomery is getting a bit of a facelift, and one that has been several years in the making. WCHS TV said memorable buildings at the corner of 4th Avenue and Ferry Street are coming down after a three-year wait. Residents remember those as the Top Hat, the Odd Fellows Lodge and the old Taxi Stand. The city wants to tear down nine buildings in total. Mayor Greg Ingram said the demolition of the first three will be paid for by the state through the RISE program. Demolishing the three buildings could take another month to complete and Fourth Avenue is closed from Lee to Washington while the work is underway.
