Man Faces a New Charge After Trying to Escape From Kanwaha County Deputies

A man is in custody after Charleston police said he jumped into the Kanawha River on Friday while he was handcuffed. Police said they were walking Timothy Smith to Kanawha County Magistrate Court for arraignment when he took off, ran away and jumped into the river.
