Sissonville Murder Suspects Will be Tried Separately

Two people charged in connection to the murder of a woman whose body was found in a deep well in the Sissonville area were in court on Tuesday. Virginia Marie Smith and Michael Wayne Smith are both charged with first-degree murder for the death of Cheyenne Johnson. The two suspects are not related but investigators previously said they were in a short-term relationship. Johnson’s body was found in the well in May. Deputies said Johnson was shot with a rifle and her body put in the well. The state and defense both agreed during a hearing before Judge Kenneth Ballard that the two suspect should be tried separately. The two will stand trial next year.
