The number of active COVID-19 cases in West Virginia dropped during the holiday weekend despite the addition of nearly 3,500 new positive cases in the three-day span. The state added 3,450 new positive COVID-19 cases since Friday, according to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. Despite the additions, active cases in West Virginia dropped by 539 to 8,746. Statewide hospitalizations due to the virus decreased by five during the weekend to 575, including 200 people in intensive care.
