Because of budget cuts, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office is being forced to change how they do business. WCHS TV reported the sheriff’s office budget was slashed 8% in the spring of 2019 and then took a 20% cut that fall. In the spring of 2021, the office’s budget was cut again by 10%.The office has been outpaced by other departments in pay and benefits in recent years and is down to 15 deputies from 24. Eyewitness News plans to attend the next Boone County Commission meeting to find out what they’re doing to help.
