Dozens of Cats Have Been Adopted After Landmark Rescue

The Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association said it has made progress in finding homes for dozens of cats that were seized from a single residence in November where 105 cats were found. Humane officials said in a Facebook post on Wednesday that 21 cats related to that case are still at the shelter. In November, South Charleston humane officers and the humane association seized the cats from a home, nearly doubling the shelter’s cat population. At the time, officials said the caretaker of the cats was cooperating with humane officers and the association about relinquishing ownership of the animals. While 105 cats were seized, some of the cats ended up being pregnant and gave birth. Officials said as a result, a total of 120 cats resulted from the situation. The majority of the kittens have been adopted or are in foster homes raising their kittens, officials said. Eighty-seven cats have been adopted.
