Pfizer has developed a new antiviral pill for use as an at-home treatment for COVID-19. Some health officials have said it’s a game-changer in the fight against the pandemic. The FDA recently approved the Pfizer pill and one from Merck as well, but both require careful monitoring by a doctor because of possible drug interactions. The Pfizer drug has been approved for those 12 and up, and the Merck pill is for adults only. The Associated Press reported Pfizer expects to have 180,000 courses of the treatment available by the end of 2021, with 30 million available globally in the first half of 2022, rising to 80 million by the end of next year.
