Earlier this year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention deemed Kanawha County’s HIV outbreak the most concerning in the country.
The problems have not disappeared. Kanawha County health leaders said they expect 130 or more new HIV cases by the end of this year. WCHS TV said
Dr. Christine Teague with the Ryan White program said CDC officials worked for several months in Kanawha County to help with the outbreak but the HIV task force has faced challenges ever since CDC staff left because of limited resources. Kanawha-Charleston Health Department’s Dr. Sherri Young said more HIV testing events are planned for this winter.
