Man Accused in the Death of Kelvin “KJ” Taylor Has His Trial Delayed

The trial for the man accused of the murder of a Capital High School student has been pushed back. Dekotis Thomas of Charleston will first stand trial for the murder of Kelvin “KJ” Taylor. The trial was originally set for Monday but has now been moved to April 11. Both sides agreed to the delay, noting there was still DNA testing to be done by the West Virginia State Police. The state and defense also indicated they intended to retain experts based on the DNA testing. Taylor was shot and killed on Central Avenue on the city’s West Side on April 7. Charges are also pending against Thomas for a separate murder case in 2019.
