Black smoke continues to be seen over West Virginia Tire Disposal in Summersville. Firefighters have been pulling burning tires out of the ground and putting them in a moat full of water to help battle the blaze, which broke out last weekend. Nicholas County Emergency Services Director John McGinnis told WCHS TV that more than a million tires are smoldering, but the flames have been contained to a 100×100 ft. area. The EPA, DEP and Homeland Security have been on scene assessing the environmental impact. The state fire marshal is there as well, but has not determined a cause. The fire could continue to burn through the week.
