WVU Scientists is Helping Monitor COVID Variants

Health officials are tracking the new Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus. And while there aren’t any confirmed cases in the US yet, officials expect it to make an impact once it gets here. Dr. Peter Stoilov is a biochemistry professor with West Virginia University’s school of medicine and WCHS TV said he’s been tracking multiple covid variants throughout the pandemic. They’re close to 100,000 samples tested and Stoilov said variants tend to pop up quickly. The professor said he doesn’t know much about the Omicron variant yet, but they’re keeping a close eye on how contagious it may be.
