WVU Wants State Resources for Mental Health Programs

Gov. Jim Justice announced he will use CARES Act money to address the nursing shortage, back to work initiatives and food bank and shelter needs – but not the college mental health crisis as some student leaders had hoped. Student leaders from West Virginia University plan to invite the governor to campus to ask for funds for mental health needs. The Mountaineer Resilience Project was passed in September at WVU in response to three student suicides on campus. The resolution laid out initiatives to expand mental health services on campus, including receiving CARES money, and have not heard from the governor’s office since.
