Culloden Veteran is Laid to Rest With Full Military Honors

A final farewell was conducted at the state veterans’ cemetery Monday for a 96-year-old veteran whose combat experiences are included in a book. The ceremony at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery in Dunbar was for World War II veteran Roscoe Mullins of Culloden. Full military honors were observed. Mullins never talked to his family about his combat experiences as a scout/sniper, but they are included in a recent book, “40 Thieves on Saipan: The Elite Marine Scout-Snipers in One of WW II’s Bloodiest Battles.” The book, by Joseph Tachovsky with Cynthia Kraack, focuses on one of the deadliest fights of America’s island-hopping campaign in the Pacific.
