National Guard Will Help Strained Hospitals Starting Monday

Governor Jim Justice said he is sending in the National Guard to help hospitals with urgent staffing needs. So far, only CAMC and Grafton City Hospital have asked for that immediate assistance, but the Guard is preparing to go statewide. They’ll be the greeters and COVID testers at the front doors and they’ll help transport patients for procedures and testing. Those with CAMC say their arrival on Monday will be a welcomed sight as they have been fighting staffing and capacity issues in crisis mode for months. About 100 Guard members have spent the past weekend training at Camp Dawson with another session this weekend. They anticipate continuing these training sessions as the need grows.
