Dozens of Natural Resources Police officers are being trained to work behind bars and prison walls in an effort to help man West Virginia jails and prisons.
At Mount Olive, West Virginia’s toughest prison, more than one in four corrections staff jobs vacant. The conservation officers will take over some of those positions starting Feb. 1. The Natural Resources Police officers will work support jobs such as perimeter security, guard towers and control rooms. West Virginia Natural Resources Police officers will go through training on Jan. 28. About 50 have signed up to take that training and overtime opportunities.
