Nucor Corporation has Selected Mason County to Set Up Shop

West Virginia leaders announced details Wednesday of an economic development project in Mason County that is expected to bring a steel mill and hundreds of jobs to the area. Nucor Corporation, the largest steel producer in the United States, has selected Mason County as the site for a state-of-the-art sheet steel mill, according to a news release from West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice’s Office. The $2.7 billion investment is the largest in both the history of the state and the company. Nucor is a Fortune 150 company based in Charlotte, N.C. that produces steel by recycling scrap metal in electric arc furnaces. The mill is expected to create about 800 manufacturing jobs. Construction of the state-of-the art facility, which will begin in 2022, will create an additional 1,000 jobs.
