Other Unions Offer Support to Special Metals Workers

Local union members from across the Tri-State joined the 450 workers on strike at Special Metals on Saturday to rally and show support. That included the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which a local union representing railroad workers. WCHS TV talked to one of those members who said unions have to stand up for one another. The United Steelworkers Local 40 and Special Metals have gone to the negotiating table several times. Recently, Special Metals presented them a contract that was turned down by the negotiating committee as they still can’t come to agreements on things like healthcare costs. There have been no new dates set for further sessions.
