Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin announced plans to give Charleston police more space with a new public safety center. Goodwin said emergency responders, police, fire, EMS workers will be able to expand under the new roof and it’s a project that’s been in the works since before the pandemic began. Now the public safety center is in its earliest design phases with city leaders working to gather data on where to build it, what to put in it and how much it’ll cost. Goodwin said there is no set budget yet for this project. But she said the plan is to use American Rescue Plan dollars to fund the project.
