Level 1 Fasteners in Huntington develops parts for the U.S. Navy and its subcontractors, but that has become difficult because some of the unique materials they use come from across town at Special Metals where workers have been on strike now for 118 days. U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito toured the Level 1 Fasteners facility on Wednesday to see the impacts. Sen. Capito said she would ask Special Metals to “settle their problems and get going because it is impacting their business” and in the end it impacts Navy shipyards and the defense department. The workers at Special Metals have been on strike since October over contract negotiations. Instead of having an 8-12 week lead time to get our materials, Level 1 Fasteners is out to 32 weeks.
