The Kanawha County Commission said it has lost $1.3 million of money meant to keep the public safe in just the last month. They said it’s due to unprecedented tax reductions for large utility and industrial companies. Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper said in the last 30 days or so, there has been about $1.3 million cut from the county’s budget. The money is used to pay for ambulances, fire trucks and police protection. He said budget cuts will have long term effects and could impact emergency coverage and response times. Carper is asking the state legislature for help.
