Fire Destroys an Admin Building on School of the Deaf and Blind Campus

A fire on the campus of the West Virginia Schools of the Deaf and the Blind in Romney destroyed an administrative building about 6 a.m. on Saturday. No students were on campus at the time and there were no injuries. State Superintendent of Schools Clayton Burch said the state will provide the necessary supports for both students and staff, and will work closely with state officials that are investigating. The building dates back to the 1800s and was home to several historical artifacts. It also served as the school superintendent’s residence. The state fire marshal has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
