Hanshaw Won’t Fill Supreme Court Vacancy

West Virginia House Speaker Roger Hanshaw made it clear on Tuesday that he has no interest in becoming a state Supreme Court justice. The Clay County Republican said he won’t apply for the vacancy created when Evan Jenkins stepped down Feb. 6, saying he wanted to return to his private law practice. Alan Moats, a circuit judge from Taylor County, has been appointed to temporarily fill Jenkins’ seat on the state Supreme Court, The Associated Press reported. Moats will serve on the Supreme Court until Gov. Jim Justice appoints someone to fill the seat.
