Hearing to be Held on Proposed Voting Site

The approval of a new early voting location was discussed in a recent Kanawha County Commission meeting, but that approval has been put on hold. Under a rule from the Secretary of State’s office, a new polling location must be unanimously approved by county commissioners, the county clerk and both the republican and democratic chairpeople of the county’s executive committees. Commissioner Ben Salango, his fellow commissioners, Kanawha County clerk Vera McCormick and Kanawha County democratic executive committee chair, Elaine Harris, are all in agreement to create a new early voting site at the Girl Scouts building on Charleston’s west side. WCHS TV said Republican executive committee chair, Tresa Howell, voiced her opposition and concerns over the cost and neutrality of the voting site. The Kanawha County commission will be holding a hearing on this on February 15.
