Former Kanawha County Commissioner Henry “Hoppy” Shores has died. Shores served as commissioner for 42 years and was the longest-serving commissioner in county history. He also served in the West Virginia House of Delegates from 1986 to 1990. Before his retirement from politics in Dec. 2020 at the age of 90, Shores was honored as the Commission Courtroom was renamed the ‘Henry C. “Hoppy” Shores Courtroom. His name is also on a walking path at the Shawnee Sports Complex and the roadway leading to Coonskin Park. The Kanawha County Commission plans to honor Shores by placing black drapes on his picture in the courtroom as well as the entrance to the courthouse. State flags will be lowered to half-staff at all county properties until funeral services can be arranged.
