Kanawha County Commissioner Ask Power Company Not to Pass On Project Costs

Kanawha County commissioners have sent a letter to the West Virginia Public Service Commission, objecting to any new customer surcharges that would be used to pay for some Appalachian Power renewable energy projects. Commissioners said in a news release Wednesday that Appalachian Power and Wheeling Power recently submitted two filings to the PSC requesting cost recovery for projects in Logan County, Illinoise and Amherst County, Virginia. Appalachian Power has indicated that the costs of the renewable projects will be paid by subscribing customers. The company maintains though that over the first decade of operation the proposed renewable projects are expected to result in a roughly $22 million reduction in West Virginia customer rates.
