The Fayette County prosecutor said a man who destroyed and dismantled an air conditioning unit on the campus of the Mountaineer Challenge Academy has been sentenced to prison. Keith D. Payne of Montgomery admitted that his motive was to sell the components to support his drug habit, according to a news release from the Fayette County Prosecutor’s Office. Payne was sentenced to one to 10 years in prison for felony destruction of property. The prosecutor said Payne went to the campus six different times to get to the unit that was located behind a security fence. Payne will spend a minimum of one year in prison before he is eligible for parole.
