Nurses Are Hired on the Spot at ‘Walk in Wednesdays’

St. Mary’s Medical Center has found a unique way to deal with the nursing shortage issue that is plaguing hospitals nationwide. The event is called “Walk-in Wednesday”, and it’s the hospital’s way of trying to make it as easy as possible to to be a nurse at their facility. Potential nurses can fill out an application, get an interview with a manager, get a tour and walk out with an offer, according to Chris Mokas, HR Director at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Six nurses were hired on the spot last month during the event. “Walk-in Wednesday” will be held on third Wednesday of each month.
