Wayne County Man is Charged in the Death of His Girlfriend

West Virginia State Police said a man charged in the death of his girlfriend claimed he found her hanging by a scarf on a coat rack in a bedroom, but the evidence indicated she was strangled with a cord. Shawn Carter of Wayne is charged with second-degree murder and strangulation in the death of Connie Slone, according to a criminal complaint filed in Wayne County Magistrate Court. State Police responded Sunday to investigate a death at a home on Route 152 in Wayne and the investigation led to Carter’s arrest. A crime scene analyst said the markings on Slone’s body were not consistent with Slone hanging herself, but were consistent with ligature marks, likely from a cord.
