West Virginia State University joined a statewide overdose prevention initiative created for college and university campuses. The “Be The One” program focuses on the opioid epidemic from a bystander’s perspective and encourages staff and students to be the one that saves a life. Phase one of the initiative will install six overdose rescue kits, known as Naloxboxes, on WVSU’s campus. Kits contain two doses of Naloxone and training materials that teach individuals how to safely assist overdose victims. The initiative was created by the West Virginia Collegiate Recovery Program and the West Virginia Drug Intervention Institute to assist in education, prevention and recovery efforts on state campuses.
