Michelle Wolfe, an English teacher at East Hardy High School in Baker has received a Milken Educator Award along with $25,000 in unrestricted prize money, according to a press release from the West Virginia Department of Education. These awards are generally given to outstanding teachers in the early to mid-stages of their careers to recognize achievement and consider future contributions to the field of human services. Wolfe was the first of 60 teachers nationwide to be recognized this school year with the award. Wolfe said she often ties lesson plans to current events and concrete, real-world examples to help students find practical uses for English. Wolfe’s award money is unrestricted.
