Democrats Want a Special Session to Pause the Gas Tax

Democrats this week called again on Republican Gov. Jim Justice to convene a special session of the Legislature to pause the gas tax while West Virginians struggle with fuel prices spiked by the Ukraine invasion. They say the move could save motorists almost 36 cents a gallon at each fill up. Neighboring Maryland paused its gas tax. Last week Justice said only the legislature had the authority to do so. Democrats say using surplus funds could offset the estimated $35 million loss in revenues from suspending the gas tax.
