The lack of volunteers has caused the Sharples Volunteer Fire Department in Logan County to start the dissolving process. The station said it can no longer provide adequate fire, rescue, and safety support to its communities or meet federal, state, and county codes because of a lack of volunteers to fill required positions. The Logan County Fire Commission and the West Virginia State Fire Marshall’s Office are working on the plan to ensure the Sharples community will continue to have fire and rescue service.
