Input is Welcome on the New Intermediate Court of Appeals Operations

The Intermediate Court of Appeals Advisory Committee is still taking ideas and suggestions about how the court will operate, even as the opening day approaches. The court will hear civil appeals, guardianship, family court appeals and appeals from administrative law judges that used to go straight to the state’s Supreme Court. The court will not hear domestic violence cases and other criminal appeals. The Intermediate Appeals Court will begin operations in a Kanawha City office building purchased by the state on July 1. The City Center East building will serve as headquarters. Both the new court and the Supreme Court will be moving to electronic filing for lawyers with the change. Those new court rules are out for public comment until April 11.
