Construction got underway Tuesday on the major Jefferson Road project in South Charleston. This construction project has been delayed since 2019, due to waste area concerns and right-of-way challenges, but work is underway now. WCHS TV said Jefferson Road will be widened from two to five lanes and add a roundabout and overpass. Another part of the project will build a new access road and bridge from Jefferson Road to the area behind the Trace Fork shopping complex. The goal is to ease congestion problems and make the area safer. The connector road and bridge that will connect Jefferson Road to the area behind Trace Fork shopping center is expected to be completed by fall 2023. The new, wider Jefferson Road is scheduled to be finished in the fall of 2024.
