The Putnam County Health Department has named Dr. Samia Turner as its new medical director and health officer. Turner is a board-certified family medicine physician and will assume the leadership role effective April 1. Turner will provide oversight of the county’s health protection programs, clinical supervision of physicians and health professionals in the county, administration of public health policy and rules and be an advisor to the community, among other roles. She is the current owner of Turner Medical and Almost Heaven Spa in Cross Lanes and will maintain her practice there while serving in her new role. She replaces Dr. Michael Robie, who resigned from the position in February.
