Nineteen Finalists Aim to Fill Judicial Vacancy

Nineteen people have applied to fill a vacant seat on the West Virginia Intermediate Court of Appeals. The applicants are vying to fill a seat for a vacancy that was created by the resignation of Donald Nickerson. Nickerson was set to be sworn into the post in May, but he withdrew from the nomination process in March. He was appointed to the position in December. Gov. Jim Justice will appoint one judge for a term of six-and-one-half years, concluding on Dec. 31, 2028. Interviews are being conducted by the Judicial Vacancy Advisory Commission this week.
