A man has been arrested after a shooting in Alum Creek on Sunday. Brent Peters is in custody after a woman was shot in the side of her face around 1:30 on Childress Road in Alum Creek. It was initially being reported as an accidental shooting, with Peters claiming the woman had shot herself, but Kanawha County deputies said further investigation led to the arrest. According to the criminal complaint, Peters claims the woman grabbed the gun while he was holding it, and it fired. The bullet hit the side of her face and left extensive internal injury. Deputies said in the criminal complaint they don’t believe it was an accident. Peters is charged with malicious or unlawful assault.
