Police: A Fayette County Man Faces Charges For Trying to Light a Woman on Fire

A Fayette County man has been charged after he was accused of assaulting his girlfriend and attempting to light her on fire. Deputies said 36-year old James L. Craig of Cannelton is accused of hitting and choking his girlfriend until she lost consciousness and striking her in the head with a wrench before soaking her in alcohol and attempting to light her on fire during what was described as a “mental breakdown” by the man’s father. The Fayette County Sheriff’s office said the woman was able to escape through a window and was taken to a local hospital with severe lacerations. The sheriff’s office is taking tips on the case as the investigation continues.
