Joshua Phillips Trial Won’t Change Venues

A jury has officially been selected in the murder trial of Joshua Phillips after a Kanawha County judge denied a defense request for a change of venue and ruled the murder trial of Joshua Phillips will continue in Kanawha County. Kanawha County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Bailey made her change-of-venue decision on Monday in the trial of Phillips, who is charged with first-degree murder in the December 2020 shooting death of Charleston police officer Cassie Johnson. He will also stand trial on a charge of possession with the intent to deliver in reference to Klonopin pills he allegedly purchased just before the shooting.
