Efforts to get a court to block the demolition of the old Sears building adjacent to the Town Center Mall in downtown Charleston have fizzled. A Kanawha County Circuit Court judge refused to issue a preliminary injunction against the demolition sought by the mall’s current owners over concerns about a common wall between the two structures. This ends a long running complex legal fight over tearing down the old Sears building to possibly build a hotel. The demolition was opposed by the Town Center mall whose owners and operators had concern over what would happen with a common wall with the mall. A written order is expected next week.
