Marshall Aims to Make Its Campus Safer for Pedestrians

New steps are being taken to try to improve pedestrian safety around Marshall University’s campus in Huntington, including lowering the speed limit. The city said the speed limit on Third Avenue and Fifth Avenue between Sixth Street and 20th Street will be reduced from 35 mph to 25 mph as part of the initiative with the West Virginia Department of Transportation. The city has also completed a new crosswalk on 20th Street to make it safer for pedestrians going to and from Marshall’s Recreation Center or Joan C. Edwards Stadium. Marshall University police will be tasked with enforcing the new speed limit. New signage reflecting the change is expected to be up in the coming days.
